The government continues to bolster strong man Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, who is wanted in the United States on alleged criminal charges, through contracts to his company, Incomparable Enterprise Limited.
The latest release of contracts from the Contractor General (OCG) endorsed by the National Contracts Commission (NCC) during the month of August 2009 shows an award of a contract for $2.7 million to Incomparable Enterprise for lease of heavy-duty equipment.
Earlier this year, the company was awarded $6 million contract to build a monument for former Prime Minister, the late Hugh Lawson Shearer. This is in addition to close to $30 million from the Kingston & St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) since the Jamaica Labour Party took control of the council.
Reports are that the government has sought answers from the US government on the identities of a number of unnamed co-conspirators in a Grand Jury indictment alleging that Coke committed several counts of drug trafficking and gun-running offences. But under US laws, the prosecution can withhold the names of informers.
This position was upheld in a case, the State v Zamora following a spate of killings of informers who testified in criminal cases.
The Grand Jury indictment against Coke states that from 1994, and October 2007, in the Southern District of New York and elsewhere, and others known and unknown, unlawfully, intentionally, and knowingly combined, conspired, confederated, and agreed together and with each other to violate the narcotics laws of the United States.
According to the Grand Jury, around 1994 Coke and others known and unknown, not being licensed importers, licensed manufacturers and licensed dealers engaged in the business of dealing in firearms: In the course of such business ship and transport firearms in interstate commerce in breach of US laws.
Coke and his co-conspirators would answer charges of possession of and intent to distribute, 1,000 kilograms and more of mixtures and substances containing a detectable amount of marijuana, in violation of Sections 812, 841(a) (1), and 841(b) (1) (A) of Title 21, United States Code.
The accused and his co-conspirators would also face charges for unlawfully, intentionally, distributing five kilograms and more of mixtures and substances containing a detectable amount of cocaine. The Grand Jury was told that Coke controlled the Tivoli Gardens area, a neighborhood in inner city Kingston, Jamaica, since 1990.

If Bruce Golding does not extradite Dudus then they will have no authority to extradite anone else and both he and the minister of justice can just resign. i would like to know why one set of laws is being applied to Dundus and another to the 19 persons who were extradited last year.
he was tried in the us court already. usa think that they own the world , that is why they have to look over their shoulder at all times. dont send dudus to the state let them come here and tell what they know. it could be me next .
I am so surprised that so many Jamaicans are surprised at the JLP actions on this matter. Did you all believe their lies that Former Supt. Adams committed murder in trying to go into Tivoli to get a shipment of rifles that was just delivered there? that intelligence came from good source. So seeing how the JLP behaved and managed to convince a lot of Jamaicans of their lies, do you all think they can give up the President? The minute Bruce makes that decision, and it is his decision, he will not be Prime Minister anymore; you can take that to the bank. That’s the strength of the beast they created and now cannot control. I am happy he is in power and have to deal with this matter, I am so sad for my country and what will be unleashed on it because of the compromising of the Government.
It is not strange that this govt has dithered on this topic. It has asked the US govt a question for which it knows, they will not receive a response. Which police reveals the source of its information, when that information was obtained from an informant. Bruce playing games with our lives. Let him face the music and if he is innocent he will be home in a jiffy
Bruce is now proving that his administration is
amateurish and backward in foreign policy and
our police are lacking in resolve. If Bandits are making decisions for the country why do we need Bruce? Tourism will suffer greatly, possibly permanently when America responds emphatically to this international faux pas.I will not return to Jamaica for a vacation or to live. What awaits me, kidnapping and armed gunmen in my hotel room? A
Government afraid of,and controlled by political
thugs?
This Government just dont understand the real world or they dont care. Is it that they intend to do whateve it takes to keep them in power. You can a man of alleged corruption continue to get government contracts. sigh……………..
